God’s love, your purpose

Light for the Way devotional seriesGod loves us. I mean, he really loves us! He has called us each by name as precious and glorious children (see Isaiah 43:4). It is freeing to know that, in Christ, each of us is valued, and each of us has a home.

Yet God’s inexhaustible love for us is greater even than this. In giving us value and a home, he has also invited us into lives of meaning and purpose. And not just any purpose. His people have been honored with nothing less than to be made representatives of God and his love to the world.

In the famous Psalm 23:3, we are shown that God leads us “in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake,” meaning to “establish his name.” God’s esteem for us is shown in how he trusts us, imperfect as we are, to establish his name in this world.

He has even given us unique gifts with which to glorify him (see Romans 12:6), and he has given us Jesus as our example. We participate in God’s mission when we serve the needs of others in such a way that God’s love is both shown and known, just as Jesus did.

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. —Matthew 11:29

My wish for each of you today is that you would find rest for your souls knowing that God loves you truly. Also, keep your heads held high. For the next time you help another, know that you can participate in representing Jesus and His love in this world.
