Light for the Way devotional seriesWould you like to understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God? Would you be interested in receiving wisdom, wisdom that comes directly from God? Then you have come to the right place! God’s holy Word.

Yes, my friends, you have heard it before and now hear it again … it is in God’s Word and in the life and words of Christ that we find God’s knowledge, wisdom, and truth. This should cause us to go on the most adventurous treasure hunt of all!!

My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.  For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” —Proverbs 2:1-5

Many years ago, in my youth ministry days, I took youth teams to Mexico. One of our practices in training these young people was having memory verses, to encourage their understanding of the Scriptures and to grow in wisdom. This Scripture passage was on the list, and it wasn’t a favorite due to the challenge of its length. But a powerful passage it is!

Another experience that has stayed with me — my wife and I attended a workshop that focused solely on hiding God’s Word in our hearts, on internalizing (not just memorizing) the Scripture. It was so refreshing as I was once again encouraged to treasure up His commandments in my heart and mind. I desire to fall more deeply in love with His Word and allow it to wash over me, cleansing and renewing me each day.

Let’s go on a treasure hunt!!
