Honor and hugs

We wrap up National Nursing Assistants Week with a peek inside a retirement celebration in honor of Nursing Assistant Cynthia Oyetan.

Dickson Hollow Campus Administrator Jenny Weise wrote in April:

“Cynthia, our dedicated resident assistant for the past five years, is retiring. As we celebrated her retirement today, the outpouring of hugs, smiles and tears reflects our LOVE for her. Our hearts are filled with so much gratitude! Cynthia, thank you for touching the hearts and enriching the lives of EVERYONE at Dickson Hollow.”

On that special day, Cynthia felt deeply touched by the incredible show of love and affection from residents and staff alike. “I was surprised – I felt wonderful!” she exclaimed. “I knew was a good caregiver, but I didn’t know it was going to be that nice with all the hugs. I got a lot of ‘I love you’s’ from my residents and that was wonderful.”

Cynthia explains that she started professional caregiving in 1989. Growing up, she was inspired by caring for her grandmother and developed a passion to share that same love and care with more older adults.

In recent years, she enjoyed making Dickson Hollow residents feel special — and beloved. “I talked with them and asked if could get them a cup of coffee or a snack. And I liked to give them a hug because sometimes that’s what they need. Everybody needs a hug sometimes, come now!”

Thank you, Cynthia, for enriching the lives and touching the hearts of older adults. We wish you the best in a fulfilling retirement as you continue to bless others.
