Norman (Norm) Wenck, Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS) board member and chair, passed away unexpectedly following an accident at his home on May 25, 2022. Norm, age 82, served on the PHS board for eight years. He was actively engaged in several PHS-related functions in the week preceding his death, including providing comments at a foundation luncheon, participating in a board finance committee meeting, and co-hosting a luncheon with prospective board members.
An Iowa native, Norm was born in Carroll, Iowa. He studied civil engineering at Iowa State University where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He founded Minnesota-based Wenck Associates in 1985. Later the organization expanded to become Wenck Enterprises, an engineering and consulting firm spanning the United States that provides innovative solutions related to infrastructure, water, air, land, waste and industrial processes.
Norm is survived by his wife, Mollie, two daughters, two sons, 13 grandchildren, a great grandson, and a brother and sister.
“Norm was instrumental in our strategic planning, organizational positioning, governance processes, and more,” said PHS President & CEO Dan Lindh. “He was a great husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, mentor, friend and above all a strong Christian with strong faith in His Savior.”
Active in the community, Norm served multiple not-for-profit and civic organizations during his life, including Christian Restoration Services, Bank of Maple Plain, Lake Minnetonka Communication Commission, City of Independence City Council, the Value Society, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and other organizations. The Wenck family asked that memorials be given in support of Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, Prison Fellowship and Presbyterian Homes & Services.
“Norm was a great supporter and friend to the organization,” added Mark Meyer, PHS chief financial officer. “He was a huge contributor to our ministry.
“Norm did not talk a lot in meetings, but when he did, people listened,” Mark observed. “He made it a point after every meeting, without fail, to share kind words and appreciation that always left you feeling good.”
A service celebrating Norm’s life will be held June 3 at Vision of at Glory Lutheran Church, Plymouth, Minn.
“Norm was an encourager,” noted Dan. “He was a friend and role model who consistently went out of his way to greet and connect with people. He will be deeply missed. Please keep his wife Mollie, their children, Lori, Lisette, Todd, Joshua, daughters-in-law/sons-in-law, grandchildren and great grandson in your prayers.”
