Avinity, an affiliate of Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS), is the new owner of The Wellington. The senior living community was purchased from Minneapolis-based StuartCo, which first opened the community in the 1990s.
The Wellington is located on Rockwood Avenue, southeast of West 7th Street in the Highland Park neighborhood of St. Paul, Minn. The Wellington offers independent senior living in a thriving urban neighborhood with nearby city services, recreation, shopping, churches and public transportation.
As part of a mutual commitment to the community, PHS and StuartCo worked together closely to assess the changing needs and desires of older adults and how to best serve them. As the affiliate to Avinity, PHS has also been considering ways it can best support employees in need of more affordable housing.
To meet this goal, The Wellington is being repositioned to offer 55+ independent living apartments and employee apartments at an affordable rental rate. This helps address and meet the growing demand for “middle-market” apartments in Highland Park for both populations. It is also resulting in reducing rent for the older adults now living at The Wellington who choose to remain as residents.
A significant component of this transition will be the transition away from offering assisted living as a living option at The Wellington. The transition is anticipated to be complete within the next 60 days. Until then, StuartCo will provide management services for The Wellington because it holds the current assisted living license.
The well-being of the Wellington residents and employees is Avinity’s highest priority. With the full support of PHS, Avinity is committed to supporting residents and their families as well as staff and to keeping them informed throughout the transition. Avinity and PHS are working closely with StuartCo. StuartCo. is supporting assisted living residents to relocate or identify providers who offer the personal services they need.
