Civic, business and religious leaders—together with HallMar Village residents—gathered yesterday to dedicate Cedar Rapid’s newest senior living community. Established as a shared ministry of Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS) and Mercy Medical Center, HallMar Village provides a continuum of care for the rapidly growing population of older adults in the Cedar Rapids area.
Located on 42 acres in northeast Cedar Rapids at 8900 Ave. N.E., HallMar Village includes 117 independent living apartments, 40 assisted living apartments, 20 memory care apartments, and 60 care center suites. This enables HallMar Village residents to enjoy the quality of life they desire with the assistance they need.
Jenna Gardner, HallMar Village campus administrator, welcomed guests to the dedication and expressed gratitude for witnessing the transformation of a building into a home for nearly 100 HallMar Village residents.
President and CEO Dr. Timothy Quinn noted that Mercy chose to join with PHS because of the organizations’ similar missions and ministries. He also noted that as a national leader in housing and services for older adults, PHS superbly delivered on Mercy’s vision to create a community where older adults can thrive.
David Palmer, project developer for Senior Housing Partners, the development arm of PHS, thanked the many people—including residents, family members, staff, medical team members, architects, construction partners, donors, finance providers, and elected officials—who made the project possible. “We are grateful for the contributions that everyone has made to make HallMar Village come to life,” said Palmer. “It is no longer a concept, a deal, a project, a development or a building. It is now an incredible community.”
HallMar Village offers desirable social programs and convenient amenities for a comfortable and engaging lifestyle. Its expansive village center includes a chapel, dedicated community room, conservatory with plants and natural light year-round, restaurant-style dining and a casual bistro, state-of-the-art wellness center, salon/spa and a theater. Outdoor features include patios, gardening space and walking trails.
The community is connected, via an enclosed link, to The Chris & Suzy DeWolf Family Innovation Center for Aging and Dementia. The center seeks to support older adults and those living with dementia to live fuller, more satisfying lives. The center’s unique proximity to HallMar Village allows residents to easily access these services, which are also open to the public.
Ten organizations provided financing for the construction of HallMar Village, including: Iowa Finance Authority; Dorsey and Whitney LLP; Hamline Capital Advisors; Odeon Capital Group, LLC; McKennon Shelton and Henn LLP; Hamline Capital Management; McCarter and English, LLP; UMB Band; Hartman Consulting LLP; and First American Title Insurance Company. Pope Architects, Saint Paul, Minn., served as HallMar Village’s Crest’s architect. Conlon Construction, Dubuque, Iowa, served as the project’s general contractor.
HallMar Village is the sixth PHS community in Iowa.
